A solid bowling effort from the Chevrolet Warriors saw the Chevrolet Knights struggling on 183/7 by the time bad light was called, only 15 minutes from stumps on day one of their Sunfoil Series clash at Buffalo Park yesterday.

At 21/3 and 57/4 the Knights found themselves in deep trouble, but battling an unbeaten 61 off 151 balls from Rudi Second and two half century partnerships helped them to their score at the close of play.

The day’s action was delayed for over two hours after torrential rain on Wednesday night left a very wet outfield, which was finally cleared as players got the game going after an early lunch.

Basheer Walter drew first blood with just one run on the board as he bowled Gihahn Cloete (1) off the first ball of the fourth over.

Reeza Hendricks and Letlotlo Sesele then shared a 20-run partnership before two wickets in four balls had them in a spot of bother.

Walter had Sesele (12) caught by Simon Harmer at slip off the last ball of the eighth over.

Three balls into the next over and Andrew Birch had them three down as opener Hendricks (8) edged behind keeper Brendon Louw.

This saw Pite van Biljon join Second at the crease and the two looked to revive the innings with a 36-run partnership.

However, having struck five fours in a confident 28, Van Biljon was bowled by Sisanda Magala, leaving the Knights on 57/4.

Michael Erlank and Second then played sensibly and took the Knights to tea on 91 without further loss.

After tea Second and Erlank increased their partnership to 52 runs, after which the toiling Simon Harmer found Erlank’s outside edge to have him caught in the slips by Somila Seyibokwe for 24.

Walter ended the day as the Warriors best bowler with 3/36 off 14.5 overs while Birch 2/30, Harmer 1/38 and Magala 1/49 all contributed along with Darryl Brown, who although not claiming a wicket conceded just 15 runs in his eight overs.
