Teachers trace goods stolen from school

TEACHERS from Siviwe Senior Primary School in Ndevana recovered computer equipment, food and stationery at the weekend that was stolen from the school last week.

The teachers said they decided to act after claiming local police did nothing after a case was opened last Tuesday.

“We approached the police and asked for their go- ahead for a search in the community and two of them came with us,” said school principal Gladstone Luthuli, adding it was not the first time criminals had broken into the school and stolen computers.

About 260 pupils are receiving computer lessons.

Four youths were arrested on Sunday.

Police spokeswoman Lieutenant Siphokazi Mawisa said the arrested suspects were aged between 18 and 23 years.

“They arrested suspects at their homes and recovered three computers, a printer, two keyboards, stationery, food, a dinner set and glasses, and a small stove,” Mawisa said.

A 33-year-old woman was arrested yesterday for allegedly buying stolen food.

School governing body chairman Morris Kose blamed drug abuse for the break-in.

“The boys who did this are very young and are addicted to drugs. There is a big problem with mandrax and dagga in our community,” Kose said.

The suspects will appear in the Zwelitsha Magistrate’s Court today . —
