Two more sides in the National First Division frame

KwaZulu-Natal's Kings United FC and Magesi FC of Limpopo are the newest additions to the National First Division for the 2016-17 season.

The two gained promotion today following their heroics at the week-long ABC Motsepe League national playoffs in Mangaung.

Kings finished top of Group A with 10 points while Magesi finished at the summit of Group B with nine points. Both concluded their round-robin campaigns undefeated.

They will now meet in the final on Sunday to battle it out for the whopping R1-million prize-money for the winner with the runner-up walking away with R500 000.

For Magesi who beat Gauteng champions JDR Stars  2-1 yesterday, it was their third attempt at this tournament.

Kings on the other hand -- after defeating Eastern Cape's Tornado  2-1 -- rewrote history after 14 years of KZN clubs trying their luck without success at this very event.

Kings' promotion to the NFD will see the province of Shaka having four clubs in the second tier as they join AmaZulu, Thanda Royal Zulu and and Royal Eagles.

This they did in style because true to their name, the Kings reigned supreme in Group A with an unblemished record in the round-robin matches after three wins and a draw.
