The Warriors cricket team head into the last chance saloon as they entertain the high-flying Cape Cobras in what should be an entertaining RAM Slam T20 match at Buffalo Park tonight.

It is do-or-die now for the Warriors who sit in fifth place on the log, nine points off a playoff spot with just three games to go and they know realistically they need to win all three to stand a chance of making the T20 playoffs.

“The team is looking good, looking strong, physically we have always been up there, we just now have to make sure that we are mentally ready for tomorrow,” said Warriors coach Malibongwe Maketa.

“It is essentially three finals for us, we are not in a position to underestimate anyone, we have left ourselves with a lot to do, which is not ideal but the guys are ready to put in a performance.”

The Warriors have the named the same squad, with one added player to the mix in spinner Bradley Dolley, that did battle with the Titans at St Georges Park this past Saturday and the team will be aiming to redeem themselves after a disappointing 40-run loss.

“We have not made a call on the starting team yet, the last time we were here the wicket was a bit slow so we will assess the conditions tomorrow and then make a call on the final team,” said Maketa.

This will be the Warriors last T20 home match of the season before they play their final two fixtures away and they will be desperate to head into those games off the back of a good win on a ground they often do well on.

“It’s a blessing to be able to come play important games here at Buffalo Park, a ground we are very familiar with and play well on,” said Maketa.

“We have to win all three matches and we will be looking to pick up some momentum here in this match.”

The Cobras find themselves in a completely different position to the Warriors as they sit second on the log, two ahead of the Dolphins and knowing a win over the Warriors will essentially seal their progress to the knockout rounds.

They enjoyed a very exciting six-wicket win over the Lions on Sunday, thanks to the batting heroics of former Warriors all-rounder Wayne Parnell who clouted a T20 best 99, before skying one looking to reach his century in style.

“Parny has been playing well for them and we look forward to playing him,” said Maketa

A schools’ T20 match will also be on show at the ground prior to the Warriors game as a curtain-raiser with Selborne up against Queen’s, with the match getting under way at 1pm and entrance free.

The Warriors match then kicks off at 6pm with tickets available from R60.

The squads are:

Warriors: Somila Seyibokwe, Colin Ingram (capt), Jon Jon Smuts, Christian Jonker, Clyde Fortuin, Sisanda Magala, Andrew Birch, Lundi Mbane, Basheeru Walters, Bradley Dolley, Jerry Nqolo, David White
