Exams at the University of Fort Hare were disrupted this morning when staff who went on strike switched off the electricity supply at both campuses (East London and Alice).

The staff, including teaching personnel, embarked on a strike today after wage negotiations deadlocked.

The staff are demanding a 12% wage increase, while the university say they can only offer them half (6%) and nothing more. They are also demanding a R500 increase on housing allowances but the university say they can only offer R100.
