Attendees have the opportunity engage with our speakers. Thembi Nkandimeng

President of the South African Local Governent Association

Cllr Thembi Nkadimeng is president of the SA Local Government Association (SALGA) and the Executive Mayor of Polokwane. In 2019, Cllr Thembi Nkadimeng was elected as the Co-President of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) during the World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (honours) and a BPhil (political studies). She is committed to promoting multi-level governance in recognition of the role of local government to encourage development in policy formulation and implementation

Dullah Omar Ins - Director

Jaap de Visser assumed office as Director of the Dullah Omar Institute in 2013 and has been associated with the Institute since 1998. He is a B2-rated scholar with South Africa’s National Research Foundation and co-author of Local Government Law of South Africa. His research, teaching and consulting focuses on multilevel government, local government, good governance and federalism in Africa and he has published widely on these topics. He holds an LLB and an LLD from Utrecht University and an LLM from the University of the Western Cape.

Afesis-Corplan - Exectutive Director

Nontando Zintle Ngamlana is Executive Director at Afesis-corplan. She is a seasoned development practitioner, a strategist and a social justice activist at heart. She holds an MBA from the Netherlands, a MDev, B.Sc Hon and a B.Sc in Applied Mathematics.

She worked in the public, academic and NGO sectors in the past and has extensive experience in good governance, accountability and participatory democracy in local government.

Steve Biko Foundations - Trustee

Nkosinathi Biko is currently the Executive Trustee of the Steve Biko Foundation, he is its founder, chairing the Foundation for the first five years.

A former Chief Executive Officer he remains a member of the Board of Trustees.
