A trio of Buffalo Flats musicians have released their single, K.I.S.S.I.N.G, which is part of the soundtrack of a movie called 2 Thirds of a Man.

The coming-of-age film is released by Ster-Kinekor on Friday.

Luciano Kopeledi, Curtis Goosen and Romano Rigney released K.I.S.S.I.N.G as part of the 10-track soundtrack of the film.

The movie tells a coming-of-age story of Justin, a talented but guarded teenager, returning to Cape Town to navigate unique challenges as a first-year student at the fictional Rockland University.

The song was sent to director Earl Kopeledi, who happens to be Luciano’s uncle, who found the song to be a perfect fit for the film, both thematically and lyrically.

Goosen, who wrote the song said: “The song is about puppy love. It is about childhood affection.

“The childhood chant used in the song is fitting because the love the characters experience is so new and innocent.”

Kopeledi, who goes by the stage name Revelu, has always enjoyed making music in his spare time.

“I was part of a group called Born Ill in 2010, which broke up in 2020.

“We were recording music in a bedroom. We released two official mixtapes.”

Goosen, also known as Rocstar and the song’s main artist, says that creating music with Born III significantly helped him gain confidence.

“I started making beats in 2015 but I wasn’t confident in my singing. I was shy and I didn’t even know that I could sing or rap.

“When I started making music with Born Ill, the group helped me get over my insecurities.”

Rigney says that music is one of the few things he takes seriously in life.

“I’ve always had a passion for music. When I was 16,  I developed a niche but it wasn’t until 2010 that I started taking it seriously.”

Born Ill won the Hip Hop song of the year at the Kumkani FM Hip Hop Music Awards 2017.

2 Thirds of a Man is a moving story of love, tragedy, courage, and ambition that explores the challenges faced by a boy on the road to becoming a man.

Set in Cape Town, the film was written and directed by first-time filmmaker Earl Kopeledi, co-produced by published fiction author Lester Walbrugh, with cinematography and editing by renowned music video director Dale Fortune.

The single can be found on YouTube.

The film is released on Friday August 19, and it is hoped it will be available on streaming platforms soon.
