A CHINTSA East pair who made it into the second round of the Ultimate Braai Master, after tough auditions, will know on Friday whether they have made the final cut to be included in the second season of the televised part of the show.

The Braai team, Barefoot, Beer and Braai (BBB) Janet Bezuidenhout and Steve Domoney competed at the Eastern Cape auditions in Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in Port Elizabeth on Saturday March 16.

The final 15 teams of two will be announced on Friday during the morning Expresso show on SABC 3 at 6am. The 15 teams will compete in the Ultimate Braai Master across various outdoor cooking challenges.

BBB team member Janet Bezuidenhout said the NMMU audition was “absolutely amazing” and “a lot of fun”. She added that she was “quietly confident” that she and Domoney would be selected for the final 15 teams for the Ultimate Braai Master.

“It’s a one in three chance. If we get in, hooray! If not, well it was a great experience,” Bezuidenhout said. The BBB team was one of 30 teams to compete in the Eastern Cape auditions.

Bush-cook guru Justin Bonello is a veteran presenter of the popular series Cooked and will again host the second season of the Ultimate Braai Master.

Media manager Georgie Caldow described the show as a mash-up between Master Chef, Amazing Race and Survivor with its own South African flare.

The game begins in the far north east coast of South Africa and for the next 60 days the final 15 teams are set to compete against each other in a gruelling braai-inspired road trip, that will see them travel the length and breadth of South Africa, from the banks of the Kosi Estuary, through Mpumalanga, Lesotho, Free State, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, before ending in the winelands of Cape Town.

Bonello said he was excited about the second season of the Ultimate Braai Master . “We learnt a lot from the first season, and we learnt that we have a fantastic calibre of cooks and braai masters,” Bonello said.

Bonello added that he thought the show was a good opportunity to celebrate South Africans.

“We’re so proud that it’s a show produced by South Africans, starring South Africans, and taps into the South African psyche,” he said.

“We want South Africans to be as proud as we are,” Bonello added.

The second season of the Ultimate Braai Master is set to air on September 18 on SABC3 at 8.30pm. —
