A POLICEMAN shot dead his wife at their home in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape, police said today.

The 33-year-old woman, also a police officer, was killed on Sunday, Colonel Sibongile Soci said.

She was a sergeant at the Uitenhage police station while her husband, a constable, was stationed at a different police station.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that her... husband... shot her and then shot himself. Both died on the scene,” Soci said.

Neighbours alerted police when they heard gunshots from the house.

A police firearm was found at the scene but it was not yet clear if this was the weapon used.

Police were investigating.
