AWEEK of comedy and farcical errors played out in Buffalo City Metro (BCM) during the 12th Southern African Inter-Municipal games.

BCM this week hosted close to 10 000 participants from various municipalities in South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia and Swaziland in a range of sporting events.

Hoping to promote the city, organisers instead put their worst foot forward as the games were hit by a series of challenges including technical glitches, incomplete fixture schedules and delayed and postponed games.

The games started on Sunday and ended yesterday.

Describing how the event played out, participants spoken to by the Saturday Dispatch described it as a “mess from the start to the end”.

A Mbabane municipality participant, Bonisiwe Simelane, said she was so frustrated over the postponed games on day one that she wished she had not attended.

“We came here to play games and now games are being played on us,” said an angry Simelane.

Physiotherapist Bonga Tshawe from Ingquza Municipality said the event was poorly organised.
