Expelled Cosatu leader Zwelinzima Vavi is considering hauling the federation’s remaining leaders to court.

Vavi accused Cosatu leaders of making statements “which border on defamation and criminal libel” at a media briefing on Tuesday to officially announce his removal from the 30-year-old trade union federation.

The CEC‚ in explaining reasons for expelling him‚ said Vavi had acted unilaterally in many respects.

“He has ... behaved in a manner which placed him above the organisation‚ as an untouchable leader. He treated the organisation as his own‚ including the the Cosatu leadership collective and the entire membership as his inferior subjects‚” the union federation asserted.

In its statement yesterday‚ Cosatu also said it had instructed Vavi to “return all the property of the federation with immediate effect of this resolution being communicated to him” and that Vavi would not be given access to office unless he did so in consultation with national office bearers.
