Soccer boss and new Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Danny Jordaan says that nowhere has his name ever been mentioned in the US indictment alleging corruption and bribery relating to the 2010 World Cup.

Therefore‚ he says‚ he sees no reason to speak about it publicly.

Jordaan was responding to some Bay sector leaders’ call for him to take the city into his confidence and explain his role in the $10 million payment to Concacaf.

He was speaking on the sidelines of today’s council meeting in Uitenhage. The metro also includes Port Elizabeth.

Jordaan was expected to announce his mayoral committee but postponed the announcement saying he first wanted to establish the extent of the challenges in the institution before deciding on the team that will be best suited to address the problems.

In the meantime Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi dismissed reports that they are investigating Jordaan and other SAFA officials.

"The Hawks would like to set the record straight in that the directorate has not opened any formal investigation regarding the FIFA saga that has flooded the public arena of late‚" Mulaudzi said in a statement.

In addition‚ Mulaudzi said any speculation that suggest they are investigating Jordaan and other SAFA officials "are simply malicious‚ baseless and unfounded".

"We have not received any correspondence from the FBI or United States authorities‚ who are at the centre of the FIFA controversy investigations and as the directorate we have no jurisdiction to be investigating the matter."

However‚ the organisation has confirmed that they have received documents from the Freedom Front Plus concerning the FIFA issues‚ and they have opened an inquiry file to investigate contents of the documents.
