Christian rapper Den’ Wade will bring his rhymes and flows to East London for the first time on Friday.

The Pretoria-based musician will appear at River Park.

Den’ Wade, whose real name is Adamo Denewade, is expected to be joined on stage by Mzansi Gospel Awards nominated rapper, Incense, among many others.

“I have been talking to Walter and he has been saying I must come to East London. He has been playing my music on his show and now I get to come and perform in a city that has been supporting my music,” he said.

Den’ Wade’s passion for music dates back to when he used to play drums at his Johannesburg church.

“My mother was in the choir and as a boy I was fascinated by the drums – the sound that was coming from them,” he said.

From drums he moved on to play the guitar, bass and piano.

“I like challenging myself and studying instruments was part of that. I also believe as a creative person you always go out of your way to learn new things,” he said.

Den’ Wade continued playing instruments at his church and was only introduced to Christian hip-hop in 2007.

“I had never heard of gospel rap before. It was only when I heard Da T.R.U.T.H that I realised the guy was speaking the gospel. He had dope rhymes and flows just like any other rapper but his content was amazing. It got me excited.”

He later joined a group Street Saints. The group received its first awards at the One Gospel Music Awards a year later.

“Then everyone started getting busy, some were getting married, and I decided to start a solo career,” he said.

For the past three years Den’ Wade has been working on his extended play (EP).

“Two years ago I was ready to release my album but the system on which my music was stored crashed and I did not have backup. Finally, I have released it after so many challenges on the way,” he said.

The EP he would be pre-launching this Friday is titled Hustle.

Music is not the only thing keeping Dene’ Wade busy, his modelling career is also on the rise. He is the face of fashion label Soviet. Catch him in his free performance at River Park on Friday from 6pm. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
