An Eastern Cape police officer is in a stable condition after he was shot at point-blank range at the weekend, police said on Monday.
Lieutenant Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said 45-year old Mzwandile Tukani, a member of the Mthatha stock theft unit, was shot on Saturday by unknown assailants when he had gone to investigate a case with another officer at the Mandela Park informal settlement.
Fatyela said the motive behind the shooting was still unknown and a case of attempted murder had been opened.
No arrests have been made.
