A collision between a Taxi and a private vehicle on the N2 outside Butterworth has left two people dead.
Provincial transport spokesman Ncedo Kumbaca said the accident occurred shortly before 2pm.
He said details of how the accident occurred or which vehicle the two deceased were travelling in was still under investigation.
Police will open a case of culpable homicide, Kumbaca said.
