At least six people had to be rushed to Frere Hospital and the busy R72 road blocked for over an hour after three cars were involved in a crash this morning.
The accident happened on the Willow Park turn-off near the East London airport.
An Isuzu bakkie belonging to a funeral parlour was driving towards Kidd's Beach when it crashed with a Toyota Fortuna and a Golf GTI.
Police spokeswoman warrant Hazel Mqala said the coastal road had to be closed to allow emergency and rescue services personnel to clear the scene.
Mqala said cars were diverted to alternative routes.
At the moment it is not clear whether a case will be opened with the police. Mqala said the details of the accident are still sketchy.
