Mokonyane could be disciplined for comments on ANC's R1bn campaign
African National Congress (ANC) head of elections is talking herself into trouble with the party.
Mokonyane‚ who is Minister of Water Affairs and Sanitation‚ appears to have irked senior members of the party by stating that the ANC had spent more than R1-billion campaigning for the local government elections.
She made the comment in Cape Town last week‚ where‚ to the surprise of many‚ she also stated that ANC provincial chair Marius Fransman – embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal – was back at work.

Secretary-general Gwede Mantashe has also rubbished claims that Fransman – who must still appear before the party’s disciplinary committee – had resumed his work as provincial chair of the party.
“As I said last week and I am repeating it…decisions in the ANC are taken by structures. If you wake up and do as you wish you are actually fishing for trouble‚” Mantashe said‚ in response to comments by Fransman that he was back on the campaign trail ahead of the elections.
