Parliament has set the wheels in motion to investigate a move from Cape Town to Pretoria by issuing a tender for a feasibility study to look into the relocation.

The mooted move was criticised by some after President Jacob Zuma suggested it in his State of the Nation Address in February.

He said maintaining two capitals was too expensive and called on Parliament to consider a move as part of cutting down on “wasteful expenditure” in the government.

The service provider appointed to conduct the feasibility study will have six months to assess the socioeconomic impact of the relocation to Pretoria.
