Stellenbosch University is forging ahead with operations‚ saying: “Academic and administrative activities are set to continue this coming week.”
The university also said on Sunday that “it appeals to students not to disrupt lectures or tests‚ and to respect the rights of students and staff who choose to continue their work”.
Some adjustments to schedules would be needed after some disruptions last week‚ including Friday’s tense standoff between police and students when about 300 marched onto the campus and tried to gain access to buildings.
Stellenbosch Univ ?@StellenboschUni had tweeted: “Some tests have been disrupted and will be rescheduled. Students should liaise with their departments re new test date on Monday”.

“So basically the students are in two groups‚ some at the geology building and some at the engineering building. What has happen is that the demands have been changed by Sasco and this is no longer in line with what the FeesMustFall movement was originally about‚” she said.
“And in addition to that‚ they have tried to take workers out of their work and so have derailed what we initially agreed upon as a movement.”
A witness said the students tried to get university workers to join the march but were prevented by police from entering some of the buildings – but some had already slipped inside.
Cupido said: “Most of those in line with the FeesMustFall movement then left the protest and it was more the Sasco students that stayed behind to cause further disruptions.”
