The dissolved ANC Youth League in the province will challenge Sunday’s decision by the league’s mother body to disband the provincial executive commitee (PEC) allegedly amid differences over ANC president Jacob Zuma’s removal calls.

The provincial executive structure met in Bhisho today during a special PEC meeting to discuss the latest developments engulfing the provincial youth league.

The structure led by Nathi Nqoko as chairman and Butsha Lali as provincial secretary, was on Sunday unceremoniously booted out by the league’s national executive commitee (NEC).

Speaking to the Dispatch after a press briefing on Sunday, ANCYL national spokesman Mlonzi Mkhize said the province was dissolved because the league wanted “to strengthen its structures”.

“The current Eastern Cape PEC is no longer a PEC. They are disbanded,” Mkhize, who could not be reached today, said on Sunday.

After their PEC meeting today the league’s provincial spokesman Ayongezwa Lungisa, revealed that the provincial structure intend “appealling” their dissolvement internally within ANC structures.

Lungisa said the league  resolved to write to ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe and the party’s national working commitee (NWC), pleading with them to intervene and to reverse the decision taken by the league’s NEC.

He said they will first explore all the internal avenues in a bid to fight their disbandment, failing which “we could seek relief in court if needs be”.
