Convicted fraudster and former Buffalo City Metro mayor Zukisa Faku has failed to convince the court to grant her application for leave to appeal her conviction this morning.

DispatchLIVE has learnt that Faku has instead indicated that she will approach the High Court.

Prosecuting state advocate Elna Smit confirmed that the leave to appeal against conviction has been refused. "She has indicated that they will petition the High Court now," Smit said.

Attempts to get a comment from Faku or her legal representative, advocate Sakhele Poswa, were unsuccessful.

Faku appeared before the East London Regional Court after she was convicted to three years’ house arrest and community service on nine counts of fraud last week.

She misused her credit card while she was the metro mayor.
