Fire-fighters battle a blaze aboard a cargo ship in Algoa Bay

Transnet tugs and fire-fighters are currently battling a blaze aboard a cargo ship that has anchored in Algoa Bay.

Smoke can be seen billowing from the ship with Transnet tug boats assisting.

Port Elizabeth Harbour Master‚ Captain Brynn Adamson‚ said: “We are still assessing the situation and are assisting where we can”.

Adamson said the vessel has 21 crew members. Non-essential personnel have been evacuated.
