Or Tambo district municipality has set aside about R14-million towards fixing dilapidated “strategic” roads in its five local municipalities.

Tabling her 2017 state of the district address in Mthatha last week, district mayor Nomakhosazana Meth said although fixing roads was not the competency of the district authority, they had decided to pump millions of rands into supporting “strategic roads”.

“We have been identifying areas of urgent intervention to precipitate economic activity,” she said.

“We intervened in Vulindlela Heights with funding for Zanemali road. This intervention has saved the face of the Vulindlela Industrial Park.”

The Daily Dispatch has previously reported that the district municipality spent R20-million fixing the Zanemali road two years ago.
