Three Johannesburg men appeared in the East London Magistrate’s Court yesterday accused of stealing close to R2-million by hacking into e-mails between an East London attorney and a homeowner.
This is the second case the Daily Dispatch has reported on where alleged criminals hacked e-mail communication between a lawyer and a buyer in recent months.
Yesterday, the court heard from the state that the problem of the so-called “house purchase e-mail scam” was escalating in the magisterial district of East London.
In the scam the suspects hack into the email chains between the buyer and seller of a house.
