Motorists driving on the N2 between Dutywa and Mthatha will have to take alternative routes this weekend because of blasting for roadworks.

The South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) in partnership with Gibb Engineering & Architecture and construction company Rumdel Cape announced that on Saturday and Sunday there would be work done between the villages of Tetyana and Sitebe Komkhulu.

“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes from Ndabakazi via Ngqamakhwe, Tsomo or the R409 at Dutywa towards Ngcobo.

“Alternatively, use the R61 when leaving Mthatha via R408 after Ngcobo,” Sanral said in a notice.

Provincial transport spokeswoman Khuselwa Rantjie urged “motorists to plan their trips accordingly so that they factor in any delays that may be caused”.

Sanral’s southern region manager, Mbulelo Peterson, said: “There is blasting that is scheduled from 5am to 7pm on both days.”
