BREAKING: BCM ends "unsustainable" relationship with Chippa United

Buffalo City Metro has ended its relationship with Chippa United, saying it was not sustainable.

A report set to be presented by city manager Andile Sihlahla in a council meeting today seeking the approval from council to approve a new memorandum of understanding between the two parties for the next three financial year took a surprising turn when mayor Xola Pakati moved against the report.

Previously the club received R1-millon per match while the shot down proposal would have seen BCM paying the club R1. 3-million per match.

He said the partnership was not sustainable.

This comes after BCM forked out millions of rands in the last two financial years financially supporting the Port Elizabeth-based soccer club and hosting some of its games in the city.

The Daily Dispatch understands that Pakati's mind was changed following a stern decision taken by the ANC caucus yesterday against the partnership.

The Chilli Boys played against Cape Town City in a league match at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane on Sunday while the side will host Mamelodi Sundowns in a Telkom Knockout at the same venue on Sunday.
