The provincial department of health, facing criticism from an NGO over slow arrival of ambulances at a bus accident in a rural area on Monday, says it is is not to blame.

Provincial health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo was responding to criticism from Section 27 after the bus crashed in Mdumbi village near Ngqeleni, leaving four pupils dead. Another four are in critical condition in hospital.

The public interest law centre’s Ntsiki Mpulo said it was wrong that people had to use private vehicles to get the victims – all pupils from Ntshilini Senior Secondary – to hospital. They were from Mngcibe and Lwandile villages.
