A Grade 12 pupil has died and seven others were injured when a bakkie they were travelling in overturned this afternoon near Ngqeleni, in the Eastern Cape.

All the pupils were doing Grade 12 at Pangalele Senior Secondary School in Ngqeleni and had finished writing the examination paper for the day when they were involved the accident at about 2pm today.

Today’s casualty brings to five the number of pupils who died in two motor vehicle accidents in Ngqeleni in a fortnight.

Four pupils from Ntshilini Senior Secondary School, also in Ngqeleni, died in a bus accident on October 22.

Education MEC Mandla Makupula sent condolences to the bereaved family and messages of speedy recovery of those injured.

“We send our condolences and prayers to the family that lost their child during this accident. I hope they will find solace in the Lord, God in this difficult time of their lives. I also wish those hospitalised speedy recovery,” said Makupula. — lulamilef@dispatch.co.za.
