A Mdantsane man, who was charged with attempted murder in connection with an assault on a five-year-old boy, has been deemed not fit to stand trial by a psychiatrist.

The accused, Daluxolo Nyovane, 27, appeared in the Mdantsane Magistrate's Court this morning where the revelation was made.

He was seen by a psychiatrist for three months in the Fort England Psychiatric Hospital.

He was arrested two days after Christmas last December when he allegedly smashed Lathitha Makeleni into a tar road in NU3. Lathitha was playing in a street outside his home with a group of friends when Nyovane, who was walking by, grabbed him and assaulted him.

The incident left Lathitha in a coma for a month.

State prosecutor Noluvuyo Salmani today told presiding magistrate Joel Cesar that 11 months after his arrest a psychiatrist had now declared Nyovane unfit to stand trial.
