An Eastern Cape councillor and his two nephews were released on R1000 bail each after they allegedly assaulted a Whittlesea man on Christmas Eve.
Enoch Mgijima Municipality councillor Vukile Bokuva and his nephews Akhona Mbukwana and Odi Mbukwana allegedly assaulted Abongile Gulanyana at a traditional home-coming ceremony.
This after the Mbukwana siblings were allegedly involved in an argument with Gulanyana over rules of what was allowed at endlini yesibane .
While the Gulanyana family is demanding justice for the alleged assault, Bokuva has described his arrest as part of a campaign to smear his name. They will appear in court again on February 7.
