The Eastern Cape provincial government has ordered that all cultural activities of two of the oldest and best-known AmaMpondo cultural groups be suspended.

The call comes days after a faction fight erupted between the Iindlavini and AmaBhungu groups that left five people, including a woman, dead at the scene.

A sixth person later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

A number of others from the KwaZulu and Mkhandlweni villages were badly injured during last week’s bloody fight, believed to have been sparked by a lobola payback dispute.
