Sivenathi  Msindeli, 25, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison after what has been described by police as a “reign of terror” in Cambridge, East London, dating back to 2011 when he was just 17.

Captain Mluleki Mbi, of the SAPS, said that Msindeli’s crimes consisted of robbery, rape and murder and mostly occurred in and around the vicinity of the Cambridge Railway Station.

“In June 2011, he attacked, robbed and killed a 55-year-old male who had gone to look for his son’s belongings after he [the son] had been stabbed and robbed the previous day.”

The killer was out on parole for other crimes like rape and robberies when he attacked and robbed a 42-year-old male on the same spot in March 2017.

“The deceased’s family and other surviving victims have praised the work of the police in the conviction and sentencing of this notorious criminal,” said Mbi.

Brigadier Pumla Mdlankomo, the Cambridge station commander, commended the good work of Detective Constable Siyanda Tyokolo, who was the investigating officer and who has also “recently sent similar violent criminals behind bars”.
