Police had to use stun grenades to disperse crowds of disgruntled residents in Ginsberg, King William's Town, who had blocked the road with burning tyres and rubble.
The roads are now open to traffic.
Community members also blocked the road between Dutywa and Willowvale on Monday morning. Police said that Butterworth Cluster Commander Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu had dispatched police officers.
