President Cyril Ramaphosa spoke to the nation about the lockdown and the government’s efforts to curb the spread of the Covid-19 on Thursday evening.

On Thursday, the department of health reported that 1,934 South Africans have been infected with the coronavirus, and that 18 have died. More than 1.5-million people worldwide have been infected, with about 330,000 of them recovered.

The president also on Thursday visited the health department’s Covid-19 information centre, a data centre set up to monitor and track the spread of the coronavirus, when he was briefed on mechanisms to track the government’s response to the pandemic.
