Entries for the The SPAR Daily Dispatch Virtual Fun Run for Disability will close at midnight on Saturday.

The 2021 fun run will be experienced virtually, allowing participants from different parts of the country to take part.

Without taking away the fun, entrants have the choice of selecting their own start time, route and distance.

The much anticipated event will take place on Sunday, between 6am and 2pm.

This virtual run will be done in aid of Canaan Care Centre, an organisation focused on supporting individuals with disabilities.

Dispatch marketing manager Jennilee Peremore-Oliver said the Dispatch had received a few hundred entries and there was space for more.

“The proceeds for the Virtual Fun Run for Disability will help to equip the Canaan Care Centre’s kitchen with more industrial machinery.

“At the moment, they are using a small kitchen to cook three meals a day,” she said.

She said the Dispatch had done its best to help create awareness about people with disabilities,  as they were often marginalised.

“Along the way we have had ambassadors from different organisations share their experiences on Dispatch platforms.

“This event aims to highlight how people with disabilities, who are differently abled, are able to do anything,” she said.

Peremore-Oliver said the virtual fun run was a result of adapting to Covid-19, while still allowing participants to have fun.

“The fun run will be live-streamed on Sunday morning and people can also follow it there.

“There is a fun warm-up video which was created by some of our staff members that should get participants going and energised,” she said.

Peremore-Oliver said participants could visit the Dispatch offices in Beacon Bay on Saturday, between 9am and 4pm, to collect their T-shirts for the day.

“Entries are still open at R60 per person on zsports.co.za.

“People don’t want to miss out on this fun experience!,” she said.
