“The Municipality is attending to various flooding incidents that have impacted on homes, particularly informal settlements, and various flooded roads,” the city said in a statement.

“Evacuations in Mdantsane's Zone 1 and teams are on-site in Zone 3 and 18.

“We are working with ward Councillors to provide disaster relief packages and alternative accommodation to the families whose homes have been swept or invaded by water.”

BCM's Executive Mayor Xola Pakati is going on-site to assess some of the damages, the city said.

“We are also working with the SAPS on occasions where rescue operations are stretching our resources.

“Our municipal disaster operations are going to continue and as the City, we want to warn people to exercise caution.

“Those residing in low-lying areas must seek alternative accommodation. Motorists must avoid crossing on flooded roads, bridges and drains.”

Affected communities must contact their ward councillors, the Fire Department on 043 705 9000 or the call centre on 086 111 3017.
