OF COURSE Xolisani Ndongeni stole the show with his dramatic first round knockout of Vusumzi Bokolo to become the first boxer in the league to win in that manner.

Ndongeni is now in pole position to walk away with the R1-million first prize and if he can repeat the feat against his last opponent Vusumzi Tyatyeka he will open an insurmountable gap from his chasers.

But let’s first analyse each of Friday’s bouts and see if one fighter can overtake “Nomeva”.

His strategy of forcing the technically superior Bokolo to fight was spot on because he knew that should he brawl with Bokolo he would finally put him down.

Had Bokolo used his superior boxing skills, Ndongeni would have stood no chance but “Nomeva” decided to set a blistering pace and before Bokolo knew it the fight was over.

Ndongeni is going to beat every one on his path in this league like he predicted and his stock will rise to dizzy heights especially with a young and vocal promoter Ayanda Matiti behind him.

Talk about the match made in heaven. Boxers hardly mention the role played by their promoters but at the weigh-in of the fight Ndongeni said he could not let Matiti down by losing to a boxer (Bokolo) promoted by Mzi Mnguni’s Eyethu Promotions “because both myself and Matiti are new blood and we want to kick out all this madalas ”.

Well this may no have gone down well with Mnguni but Ndongeni backed his predictions with the dramatic knockout, the first of the PBL so far. If he produces a similar performance against Tyatyeka who lost to Bokolo his bank balance will not only show R200000 for winning the division but a further R1-million for remaining the last man standing.

Viva Nomeva!
