Border Cricket kicks off its season in style with a friendly against parent club, the Chevrolet Warriors, at Buffalo Park tomorrow night after a full-day bonanza of cricketing action.

The Border Cricket day will see six exciting matches played throughout the day, culminating with the Border against Warriors T20 that will start just after 6pm and should finish by around 9pm.

Current Border stars Lundi Mbane and Thandolwethu Mnyaka will be wearing a Warriors shirt after being given contracts for the season and, despite playing against their teammates, will be eager to impress for the franchise team.

Former Border player Athenkosi Dyili will also feature for the Warriors while ex-Border U19 player Onke Nyaku will be playing for the Warriors having played for Eastern Province since last year.

The Warriors team has a very youthful look, mixed with some top-notch experience.

Solomzi Nqweni, Bradley Dolley, Curtis Samboer and Nyaku are all relative newcomers to the Warriors setup, but they will be well backed up by Mbane, Mnyaka, Dyili, captain Christiaan Jonker, Kelly Smuts and Michael Price.

Opening batsman Edward Moore is still young but had a decent year with the Warriors last season and will be dangerous at the top of the order.

Most of Border’s stars will be present.

Border 2013-14 player of the season Jerry Nqolo along with bowler of the season Daryl Brown will be keen to continue their top form that saw them land the awards last season.

Led by experienced captain Abongile Sodumo and with a wealth of experience in all-rounder Burton de Wet and bowlers Lucky Pangabantu, Brandon Williams and Lwando Lwana will be aiming to show the way for youngsters Gionne Koopman, Marco Marais, Mbulelo Budaza and Mkhululi Calana.

Other action on show throughout the day ranges from invitational U13 teams to High School school cricket, club cricket and women’s cricket.

The day’s action will kick off at 8.30am in the morning with the two invitational U13 sides playing against each other in a T20 match.

The Border Zebras and Border Buffaloes will be composite sides incorporating players from Gonubie, Selborne, Queen’s, George Randell, Hudson Park, Dale, Cambridge, Central and Stirling schools and who will then play each other.

Following this match will be two club cricket six-a-side matches, the first starting at 11.45am with Hams taking on Old Boys, followed by United against Bohemians.

A Border women’s six-a-side match will then take place between the Border Aloes and Border Colts.

A massive school rivalry will act as the curtain raiser to the main event as the Hudson Park High School first team take on the Selborne College first team in a T20 match that starts at 3pm.

Families are encouraged to bring their skottle or gas braais to the stadium.

Castle Corner will be open along with other refreshment and food vendors.

Jumping castles will be available at the Kids Corner. Entrance is free.
