Lulama Mtya’s handling of the mini-flyweight non-title clash between Siphamandla Baleni and Iviwe Mgema left so much to be desired.
A usually reliable official, Mtya delivered his worst performance this time around when he allowed Mgema to get away with too much holding.
Mgema had no intention of fighting let alone winning the bout.
Every time Baleni charged forward, Mgema would leap into a clinch turning the bout into a forgettable spectacle.
It was so disappointing that some fans including this scribe began to leave the venue unable to withstand the cold weather.
Mtya should have deducted the points from Mgema from the first round but his actions or none thereof subjected the fans to agony.
When the fight finally ended, one fan was overheard saying: “Mtya should have saved us a long time ago.”
