Runners are in for a treat as this year’s Daily Dispatch Jumbo Festive Fun Run is fast approaching, with the popular event set to take place on the Esplanade next week Sunday.

Runners are expected to turn out in their numbers to take part in the morning of fun running action.

A major change to this year’s edition from previous Dispatch fun running events sees a festive theme, with the slogan, Give a Child Hope this Christmas, which will see every entry contributing towards a gift for a child in need.

“We are excited that this year our fun run will have a festive theme for the first time,” said Daily Dispatch marketing manager, Ryan Megaw.

“Part of every entry will go towards buying a gift for a child in need this Christmas and our aim is that together we can in some small way share hope and joy this festive season.

“Please show your support by wearing a Christmas hat or outfit on the day.”

Two distances, a 4km and 8km run, will be available for entrants and the route will be the same as previous events.

Although the run is aimed at being a family and fun event, some runners are still competitive and will be going out to beat personal best times and to try and finish in the top three.

However, runners and walkers of any fitness level are able to compete and are encouraged to come out and take part in the run.

“The route along the Esplanade from the Orient Beach is both wheelchair and stroller friendly and we encourage everyone from casual walkers to serious runners to participate,” said Megaw.

“This is an event that the whole family can enjoy together.”

A whole host of prizes will also be handed out on the day for the highest finishing runners, as well as prizes for the best Christmas hat/outfit and lucky draw prizes.

The run will get under way from the Orient Beach at 9am on Sunday, December 4.

Entry forms can be found at Total Sports Vincent, Sportsmans Warehouse or the Daily Dispatch Beacon Bay and Town offices.

Goodie bags and t-shirts will be available for the first 4000 entrants. No t-shirts will be handed out on race day.

Registration will take place at the Orient Beach offices next week Friday from 10am to 6pm, and next week Saturday from 9am to 12pm.
