Eight East Londoners are currently swimming from Robben Island to Big Bay in Cape Town on their own Freedom Challenge, after a poor weather saw the official event being called off.
They are swimming in chilly 11 degree weather.
Two of the swimmers, Selborne English teacher Jono Kruger and builder Greg Harris, are swimming for children’s charities.
