East London Surf Lifesaving Club (ELSLC) nippers Dominic Stegmann, (boys captain), Janey Wood and Taylor Emslie and junior Kerry Elliott have been selected as part of the Eastern Cape lifesaving team to compete in the interprovincial in the Strand, Western Cape on Saturday and Sunday.

The 2022 interprovincial will be different as Lifesaving SA’s national side will compete in preparation for the World Championships in Italy at the end of the year.

Another one of the ELSLC’s juniors, Jenna Tarr, has been selected for the SA team.

ELSLC, which was founded in 1937, is proud of its heritage and performances at provincial and national events.

The club’s participation in competition has its origin at Nahoon Beach, where members voluntarily patrol to prevent drowning incidents and provide beachgoers with a safe experience.

ELSLC are affiliated with LSA, an organisation which comprises about 7,000 volunteers across the country’s diverse social demographics.

They are a community-based, family-orientated service club, offering nippers, juniors and senior lifeguard programmes.

They also provide a safe environment where children of all ages are trained to eventually serve as volunteer lifeguards.

The next lifesaving season begins in October and prospective lifeguards are urged to get involved and give back to the community.
