Stage set for the Tru Talent Search awards ceremony
After months of travelling the province hosting auditions for the finest talent, trufm will this month award winners of the Tru Talent Search.
The award ceremony taking place on June 30 at the East London City Hall will see the station celebrating the province’s top achievers from their talent search. Tru Talent Search saw the station travelling across the province for auditions in dance, radio presenting and music.
The radio presenting contestants were under the mentorship of trufm’s programme manager Masixole Mdingane; music under Mojalefa Thebe and Israel Mosehla, while the dance contestants were groomed by seasoned choreographer Simphiwe Mba.
The station’s acting marketing manager, Busi Mbatsha, said the top finalists in each category have been competing for listener votes.
“The radio presenting contestants have been co-hosting shows on trufm with an elimination taking place every Friday. The competition started with a top 18 which then became a top 10 and then a top 5. The top 2 was announced last month,” she said.
The public has until June 29 to vote for their favourite finalist in the radio presenting category. The two finalists are Luvo Hobo and Anazo Nongubo.
In the music category Mbatsha said the contestants record their songs and have been receiving airplay on the station since May 7. There are currently 18 finalists, two from each town visited during the auditions.
“The dance contestants had video recordings taken of their dance pieces. These videos are being shared on the trufm Facebook and Instagram pages with the contestants also sharing them to get votes,” she said.
The winners of each category will be announced at a special awards night event which will feature live performances by Asanda Mqiki, Professor, Vusi Nova and Tru Talent contestants. Businessman and motivational speaker DJ Sbu will be the guest speaker for the night.
Mbatsha said the radio presenting winner will walk away with R10000 cash, a one-year contract at trufm and a Vodacom 5GB data for three months. The winner in the music category will receive R10000 cash, the opportunity to record a single co-produced by Mojalefa Thebe, the man behind Zahara’s multi-platinum selling albums; Loliwe and Phendula and Israel Mosehla, a seasoned songwriter, composer, producer and artist and a Vodacom 5GB for three months.
And finally, the dance category winners will also win R10000 cash and a Vodacom 5GB for three months.
“Trufm looks forward to continuing to support the talent and dreams of the youth,” Mbatsha said. Tickets for the finale cost R150 and are available from Computicket and Shoprite...
