WATCH | Veliswa Skeyi launches 13th album

Gospel singer Veliswa Skeyi launched her 13th album, Uloyiso ngoKrestu, at the OR Tambo Hall in Zwelitsha on Sunday afternoon.

Hundreds of her supporters packed the venue, dancing and singing along to their favourite songs by the multi-award winning singing sensation.

The Zwelitsha-born artist’s popular albums include Dwala Lam, Mandilive, Umhlobo and Uthando Lujulile.

The former Lord Comforters lead singer said if it were not for the support of her fans, she would not have released 13 studio albums.

“I am humbled by their support. It is what motivated me and gave courage all these years,” she said.

The album was released five years after she last recorded an album.

“I was scared. I was not sure that people will support me the way they did. I have no words to thank them for all the support they have given me.

“The lifespan of an artist is very short these days and there are other new artists that are getting into the industry.”

She attributed her relevancy to consistency.

“I have kept the sound they love about me and I want to believe that is what has made it easy for them to relate, even with my latest albums.”

The album was recorded at Eternity Studios in Zwelitsha and released under her music label, Veliswa Music Productions.

Siyabonga Hlekani, of the Eternity Studios, said it was easy working with Skeyi. “I was a conductor for her choir in high school and also worked with her with the Lord Comforters. That made things easy for both of us because we understand each other,” he said.

Skeyi said she would be promoting the album in Western Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. “This weekend I will be performing in Cape Town.”
