When he is not spinning the decks on 1’s and 2’s on SABC1, DJ Lynch is raising awareness about the plight of women in his beats in studio.
DJ Lynch, whose real name is Luyanda Taku, is currently in the top 9 on the SABC1 DJ/producer search competition.
The Mdantsane DJ released his latest single titled Protector from his debut album Lyvolucion last week. The album was release late last year. The song, featuring vocalist Sosoboy, is about a man who is in love with a woman who is currently in an abusive relationship.
Taku said the song was recorded four years ago but it was still relevant today.
“At that time people were not paying much attention to the plight of women. What’s happening today to women has been happening for years but people always say they do not want to involve themselves in other people’s businesses.
“As men, we need to be our sisters’ protectors. We cannot turn a blind eye when a man is hitting his girlfriend,” he said.
DJ Lynch’s single comes at a time when the country is on high alert as more and more cases of abuse surface.
Taku said he hoped that while the song would get people dancing the lyrics would get them thinking and reflecting.
“When people see a guy hit a girl, they take videos and share them on social media.
“I think it is now time to put the phones away and step in to help our sisters,” he said.
Reflecting on the 1’s and 2’s competition, Taku said he was humbled by the support he has been receiving.
“I’ve been getting messages of encouragement from people back home and I have been taking what they are saying and applying it into this journey,” he said.
Taku said he was trying to balance what the judges expect from him and what he is about.
“There is a lot of pressure that comes with competitions. There are high expectations from the judges and you also want to make your mark.
“I want to use this opportunity to share myself with the world and make sure people talk about me even after this competition. I want to stay consistent,” he said.
