Big cheers to another successful Gin Fest

A fantastic night of gin, great tunes and fun was enjoyed by over 600 people as the second Gin Fest at the C Club in Chintsa at the weekend.

With plenty more Gin Fests planned, including one in December, it is expected to become bigger and better.

“It started off with just local acts and the whole gin gimmick. We offered eight different cocktails at the bar and started making sugar syrups.

“Entry was free with the first one, so everyone knew about the Gin Fest after that,” C Club head cocktail barman Keagan de Bruin explained.

“Over the past two months we have really been marketing the next Gin Fest. We got a headliner and with at least 600 people in here, it has been a great success.”

The headlining act on Saturday night was electronic duo The Kiffness, headed by lead member and producer David Scott.

The group was in top form and got the party rocking late into the night.

“I am going to be honest and say the last time we played in East London, it was underwhelming. So we came here with no expectations and I was completely blown away by the response,” said Scott.

“I really didn’t think there was going to be such a big turnout. I am happy with the vibe and it has been a great party.”

With the C Club looking to make the fest their signature event, they will be gearing up for their next offering with the Parlotones in December.

“I felt the Gin Fest was pretty good. It was well supported. I had a few drinks which were very nice, and I would recommend the Gin Fest to anyone who is willing to go,” said one of the event-goers on the night, Khanyisa Mpumlwana.

“I will definitely be back and I can’t wait for the Parlotones.”

Some of the gin cocktails served on the night included kiwi/cucumber, strawberry/grape/ balsamic and blueberry/thyme, as well as citrus.

Some of the gin-laced desserts on offer included nougat and coconut with edible gold flakes, apple pie, and peach and mango ice, as well as honey and lavender.

“The guys love the gins. We have found a few favourites and tried out our dessert gins this time. Okes seem to dig it.

“I love getting that feedback when they are really liking it,” said De Bruin.

“I think tonight we sold at least a thousand cocktails, which is awesome and I am very happy with that.

“I think we will definitely be expanding our range as we go on and we will introduce more gins at every new Gin Fest.”

The next Gin Fest will be on December 26.

“The Parlotones will be headlining, while Lazy Days will also be joining up with the event. — rossr@dispatch.co.za
