Komani singer ready to launch solo career

After being featured by a number of top DJs, Komani singer Namhla Mbawuli is ready to launch her solo career with the release of her single titled, Uyindlela.

The 29-year-old singer got her big break in 2015 when she was featured on Mobi Dixon’s hit track Boomerang, which the pair have just remixed and will perform live on Metro FM today. Catch them between 11am to 3pm on the station.

Mbawuli said she was grateful to the award-winning East London DJ for giving her a break in the music industry.

“Mobi has really been helping me push my music and I am thankful to him for the support. I will also get an opportunity to perform my new song when we play at Metro FM on Tuesday and I wasn’t expecting to be on such a big platform so soon,” she said.

Mbawuli has worked with Msayibo, King P, and DJ Meq.

Since the release of her single Uyindlela about a month ago, Mbawuli says she has been overwhelmed by the response from the public. “A lot of people have been hearing the song but they didn’t know it’s me. Now we have a video out and I hope they will be able to put the face on the name,” she said.

Mbawuli said she would be releasing another single next month as a build-up to her debut album release.

“A lot of singers release singles before the album and I think this helps when you are still a growing artist.”

While she does music part-time, the singer works as a project manager. She said the public’s reception would determine whether she chooses the microphone full-time or follows up on her BCom honours degree.

“Right now I am just starting out and I wouldn’t just quit my job for the music. The demand for my music will determine that for me but I love that I get to do music as a hobby,” she said.

Mbawuli will be performing at a High Tea Event at Queens Casino, Komani, later this month. She said she would also use her time back home to visit stations and share her music with the people.

“Johannesburg radio stations have really been supportive and I cannot wait to go home and spread the music that side,” she said. Those wanting to hear Mbawuli’s music can follow her on her Twitter account: @Namhla_Zar.
