Quiet town prepares for best yet Berlin November

Wakanda forever!
This is how the tens of thousands of people who are expected to attend the Eastern Cape’s premier house racing event, the Berlin November, will likely salute each other this weekend.

With the theme Black Panther Inspired Look With Some Eastern Cape DNA, event organiser Luthando Bara said this year’s event would be bigger and better.
He said 100 horses from across South Africa would compete in 14 different races.
The normally sleepy Berlin town will once again come alive on Saturday when some of the biggest artists in the country such as Dr Malinga, Zahara, Ntando, 047, Brian Themba, and Ralf Gum, among others, perform live.
Other celebrities expected to show up are actors Zolisa Xaluva, Moshe Ndiki and multi-talented Vatiswa Ndara. For the fashion lovers, the fashion festival will be hosted by the movement that encourages South Africans to support buying local brands – WearSA.
Bara said this year’s event would be different from the previous year’s as they kept improving.
“Our lineup for the music festival is one that has never been seen before.
“We have even doubled the number of marquees to 13 in total and our walkways have been done professionally,” the Port St Johns-born businessman said.
While some will be at the event for the music and to make fashion statements, the main attraction will be the horses.
A total of R750,000 will be up for grabs – up from last year’s R450,000.
Despite reports by the Daily Dispatch last month about the racecourse being vandalised by a political party in attempts to invade the land, Bara said it was all systems go for the much-anticipated event.
This year, the Buffalo City Metro allocated R1.5m towards the event.
Tickets range from R170 for general, and R600 for village access VIP at Computicket. Prime hospitality marquee tickets which were R1,700 have been sold out...
