A number of fundraising events will coincide with this year’s Berlin November.

These include a lecture at the Mthatha Museum on October 19, a cheese and wine festival in East London on October 26 and a golf day in Mthatha on November 9.

The purpose of these events is to prepare Mr and Miss Berlin November pageant contestants for the competition and expose them to opportunities in their respective fields of study.

On Thursday, a fashion show will take place at Chairman’s Bistro in East London.

The show will also include a dialogue discussion with designers from around the Eastern Cape.

Fashion show co-ordinator Busi Nodada said Mr and Miss Berlin November contestants would be showing off the work of local Eastern Cape designers. “Five fashion houses will showcase their designs on Thursday.

They are Berlin November Apparel, Hot Coco, Pegasis, Funn design boutique and INFX creations,” Nodada said.

The show would also be focusing on the business side of fashion.

“The dialogue will give local designers a platform to engage on entrepreneurship opportunities in fashion.

“We will launch an app that local designers will be able to use for advertising and selling their clothing.”

Among those expected to attend is Mdantsane-born fashion designer Lelethu Tyete, local retailers and potential buyers of apparel.

Nodada said the event would highlight Berlin November’s mandate to promote entrepreneurship and growth of local business.

Pageant director Yolanda Pietersen said: “These activations are a pivotal part in grooming our contestants and preparing them for the real world.”
