Roll up for the finest in music
The hottest musicians of 2019 will descend on East London for the 11th annual Buyel’Ekhaya Pan African Festival on Sunday, December 15.
This year’s programme will include a fashion show and the music festival which promises to thrill cultural lovers across the board.
Organisers said this year’s line-up will cater for every musical taste ranging from Afro-soul, amapiano, hip hop, house and gqom.
Internationally celebrated SA xiTshonga rapper Sho Madjozi will headline the event.
Sho Madjozi will be joined by fellow musical greats Zonke, Vusi Mahlasela, Busiswa, Kwesta, Heavy K, Nathi, Yanga, Kabza de Small, The Jaziel Brothers and Bucie Smith.
The much-anticipated event will take place at the Buffalo Park Cricket Stadium.
Creator and producer of the festival Nomahlubi Mazwai of Mazwai communications said Buyel’Ekhaya is a flagship cultural event in the Eastern Cape.
“Buyel’Ekhaya was established in 2009 in East London with a simple vision: To turn the Eastern Cape into the cultural Mecca of SA.
“Each year the country’s finest kick off the holiday season festivities with their display of excellence on stage and at the music and fashion workshops and fashion show beforehand.
“Song, dance and fashion are part of our vision to give full expression to the tenets of culture that form a central part of the African lifestyle,” said Mazwai.
She said the festival was a holistic platform of entertainment that catered for fashion and music lovers.
In the build-up to the festival, fashion designer Palesa Mokubung of Mantsho designs will mentor emerging Eastern Cape designers as part of the Buyel’Ekhaya fashion development programme.
The lucky participants were chosen and announced earlier this month during a day of mentorship from Mokubung in East London.
The emerging designers will then produce garments to be showcased at the 4th annual Buyel’Ekhaya Fashion Show to be held on December 13 at the Hemingways Mall.
